In Supernatural Martial Arts, we practice God’s efforts to protect and help others, maintain righteousness, and save one from danger. 

In the past, China’s system was dominated by agriculture. Therefore, talisman spells were created to promote the prosperity of agricultural production. At that time, transportation was not developed and people traveled on foot. It is very likely to come across thieves or pirates and practicing Supernatural Martial Arts for one’s safety was then created.  It was regarded as a skill in the ancient years but recently, there’s been negative news about the supernatural martial arts powers. We hope to cite the facts for everyone and be able to provide a better understanding.  We don’t want to be mistaken for superstition. This valuable academic has been passed down from generation to generation in China. There’s been a lot lost over the years and many have criticized its systems.  As Chinese, shouldn’t we treasure and continue to carry forth this learning which was passed on by our ancestors and allow it to flourish instead of letting it diminish through time?

Among the basic skills of practicing the supernatural martial arts(SMA), is inviting the Gods into us.  Having the Gods/deities/immortals assist us in performing some superhuman actions, for example, resisting swords into the body and burning bodies with fire, etc.  In the event of accidents, a person who has Gods/Deities/Immortals protection will have lighter injuries than an average person.  Supernatural Martial arts may be explained scientifically.  As everyone has potential in themselves; if you know how to use it then you are able to do wonderful things.  Same with supernatural martial arts – if you realize your potential and know how to use it you can achieve a lot by saving people, exorcising evil spirits, and using it as self-defense.

Requirements of disciples:

1. Disciples must be benevolent
2. Disciples must have good manners
3. Disciples must be righteous
4. Disciples must be moral and descent
5. Disciples must be sincere
6. Disciples have to understand the Chinese or Cantonese language.

Violating the rules of our MaoShan Taoist teachings and commandments will result in being expelled from religious Taoism practices

Advantages of our Disciple –

Descendants will be blessed with glory and wealth.  They will also be granted a large family tree consisting of sons/grandsons, longevity, better luck, and good destiny.

The Talisman sect is considered metaphysics since it can’t be seen nor be reached through objective studies of martial reality.

Taoists may take into account of the person’s energy and how a person’s energy is blocked then certain illnesses can be cured by using talisman spells. It also really depends on the powers of the Taoist Master to understand the patient as well as other circumstances which may affect the outcome.

Talisman spells are one of the main things learned during the practice of Supernatural Martial Arts. The writing of character symbols and chanting spells must be used together for it to be effective.  The effectiveness and strengths of the talisman may differ depending on heaven & earth’s approvals and whether the Gods give permission to the Master to use the talisman. Basic talisman spells are usually used for pain relief and healing illnesses (for example, stop bleeding, stomach aches, muscle pain, etc. Disciples have used the above basic emergency talisman many times which can be considered as effective for every use. However, some readers may say that medicine can be used to stop bleeding. Bone fractures can be treated in the hospital and abdominal pain can be treated with medication as well. However, if there’s a lot of bleeding and/or the patient is located in the suburban plus there’s no quick access to medication and may be too far from the hospital, one may die of excessive blood loss. In such cases, if you know how to use talisman spells to stop the bleeding, you may be able to save a life. Of course, if you have a serious illness, you need to see a doctor. But before you can find a doctor, isn’t it best to save a life first?

In supernatural martial arts, there are earthly doctors who treat normal diseases in the mortal world.  While heavenly doctors treat illnesses caused by karma which is also known as cause-and-effect disease.

The red ink used in the talisman is made of cinnabar and users normally use yellow paper as it is said that red ink plus yellow paper will reach and connect three worlds (heaven, earth, and hell).  The talisman is believed to be like a court order. The talisman is sent to our God and requires approval before it can be effective.  The Heaven court will instruct certain immortals or Gods to assist the user. If the talisman is approved, it will show the effectiveness of the spell used.  The Gods or Deities are called upon once the talisman is burnt and spells chanted.  Taoist Masters usually use talismans to invoke a God/Deity/Immortals to help, to protect a household, heal the sick, or exorcise demons or evil spirits.

Physical Eye – it’s the type of vision that ordinary people possess. It consists of the perception of physical colors and forms; however, it does not provide complete vision. Therefore ask for the Heavenly Eye

Heavenly Eye – Also known as the divine eye, which perceives things in the darkness, at a distance, or beyond the physical limits of obstructions. When we speak of “darkness”, we are talking about ignorance, false judgment, gossip, and such. Our heavenly vision speaks to us of seeing clearly, without prejudice, so that decisions we make will prove beneficial. Therefore, we ask for wisdom eye to prove.

Wisdom Eye – This is the ability to see the true nature of things as they really are and not as we may wish them to be. This vision is available to all those who seek truth, harmony, and happiness in one’s life. However, still cannot save all living things, so ask for Dharma Eye

Dharma Eye – This is also known as the eye of our faith. it’s a bodhisattva’s clear perception of all phenomena. But still don’t get all living things path, so ask for Buddha’s Eye

Buddha Eye – Perceives the true nature of life spanning past, present, and future, penetrating the essence of all things and all phenomena in our universe.

Where did the deity connection come from?

Few people would be able to experience deity connection through reciting & practicing the Four Noble Truths & Twelve Lins of Dependent Origination. Most individuals would need to practice. The Six Perfections and ALL 8400 Heaps of Dharmas, Zen meditation, correct observations, practice The Way of Bodhisattva and cultivate a well-rounded state to be able to experience deity connection.

Arhat’s deity connection and Bodhisattva’s deity connections are different.  Arhat’s deity connection has a limitation of only being able to see things and hear sounds from the Great Chiliocosm world (three thousand great thousand boundless universes), and have knowledge of only eighty thousand cause-and-effect situations.  Bodhisattva’s deity connections are unlimited. Able to see and hear beyond the universes, can read everyone’s heart desires, and have knowledge of over eighty thousand karmic cycles.

Bodhisattva has such a deity connection because of his good-willed merits in practicing The Way of Bodhisattva.  We all are able to obtain deity connection if we have a heart of Bodhisattva, and practice The Way of Bodhisattva and various deity connections will come naturally without requests. On the other hand, devils and evils are also able to obtain deity connections and use these connections to harm others as well as lure those who are greedy in wanting deity connections for their own selfish uses.  Therefore, please be careful and do not fall into the tricks of these devilish cults.

What do you need to learn SMA?

To learn Supernatural Martial Arts (SMA) requires destiny and fate. Therefore, the level of learning would be different for each disciple even though the teaching is the same. Those who have God’s support will successfully learn the teaching more easily. However, those who are not destined for God should not be discouraged. Through hard work and endurance, they will be able to accomplish the same level of achievement.

SMA teachings and beliefs surpass many other religions.  It teaches you to distance yourself from evilness, act good and be kind, help the less fortunate, stay healthy, stay true to yourself, and not be affected by others’ opinions.  However, many people think that it is an evil cult because the disciples are able to perform acts that are beyond human beings’ capabilities.  In addition, the mysterious effects of the talismans cause misunderstandings; resulting in our reputation being tainted.  Many ask “Why don’t you make statements to clarify the misunderstandings?  Why not practice all spells and publically announce the directions to avoid such mystery?”  This is impossible because not only can SMA perform healing and strengthening of the body, it can even call upon spirits and deities to do incredible things.  If publically announce such teachings, they may fall into the wrong hands and be used for evil doings to harm others, then our reputation will truly be tainted. Those who are successful in practicing SMA on their own may misuse their powers to perform illegal acts. By disobeying the leading principles to be kind and do good, the violator will become mentally unstable as a punishment by the Gods.  Therefore, as a disciple, we do not need to argue unnecessarily to prove others wrong.  We strongly believe that truly speaks for itself; the Gods will know and we will also know deep down inside our hearts.

Paranormals existed since ancient times and are believed in many religions. Confucius, a philosopher in ancient China, has said that there are paranormals and spirits in Confucianism.  Confucianism respects these spirits and asks them to be kept away.  However, the Taoist ancestor’s theory is to practice meditating on the route to becoming a fairy. They believe that the entire universe consists of many Gods. For example, heaven has a God, earth has a God. There are also sacred rocks and trees that are led by Gods. SMA is a branch of Taoism, which asks God to give supernatural abilities to practitioners to progress with practices.  They call this being close to the Gods.  Practitioners embrace the chances of being close to Gods which is quite different from the theory believed by Confucianism or other religions.

There are many different branches that practice SMA but generally, the methods are the same.  Why are there so many branches? Due to differences in geographic locations, and environments, a particular person’s lifestyle may result in the predecessors or current masters altering various methods.  For example, talisman calligraphy, worshipping rituals, and ceremonies may be modified when passed on to the disciples.

Gradually different branches are formed and changes are made to the original methods by creating their own unique procedures during missionary work.  Moreover, different opinions or beliefs in a particular God may also result in various branches being formed and in the creation of their own branches, their own methods.  Nonetheless, each missionary is allowed to make such changes, of course, based on acceptable reasons.  Gradually, many different branches of SMA are created.  There are those who are successful and flourished but there are also those who are unsuccessful and diminished.

No matter which branch of SMA, they all have restrictions or rules that must be strictly followed.  Depending on which category of martial arts is being practiced, it may require certain restrictions.  Generally, restrictions are aimed toward dietary and behavioral aspects.  For example, dietary restrictions may include not eating certain of meat like beef, pork, poultry, cats, dogs, monkeys, etc.  It could be a combination of different types of meats or all meats and become a vegetarian.  Dietary restrictions can also be certain species of fish or types of fruits, vegetables, or even wheat and oats.  It all depends on the class of SMA that is being practiced.  In terms of behavioral aspects, restrictions generally include but are not limited to: do not abuse the use of supernatural powers, no adultery, and rape, no stealing, and do not sell or do drugs. Some even require restrictions of no sexual intercourse. Again, it all depends on the type of supernatural martial art that is being practiced. There are many rules and restrictions that can not be fully listed here.

In the practice of SMA, there’s no such thing as achieving the highest level. What is considered the highest level?  Is it to have the ability to change the weather, move mountains, or have an affinity with the Gods or paranormals?  No matter what, there are no boundaries.  Only those who are arrogant will brag that they possess strong powers.  There are also lazy disciples who did not even complete the basics, proclaiming they have special powers. While those who indeed possess special powers are usually hidden in secluded areas and remain anonymous.  Therefore, it’s difficult to determine who truly possesses the highest state of power.

What are the basics?  It is used to determine the levels of beginners.  It helps the Masters to differentiate the disciples based on their progress and to teach them step-by-step so that the disciples are not misguided or become lost during lessons.  Through the consent of the Master and the permission of Gods, disciples will be promoted and be considered completion of the basics.  Hereon forward, the more in-depth one studies of SMA, the more mysterious it becomes.  Up to a point where we, humans, feel that we are relatively small.

It is imperative to practice SMA reasonably and it must not be overly obsessed.  As long as one always keeps God at heart and in mind, God’s presence will be close by and will automatically support us when we are in trouble.

Our Beliefs and basic commandments

Commandments of disciples:

1. By all means, avoid eating white crane
2. By all means, avoid eating carp fish or cyprinid fish.
3. By all means, one shall not perform adultery & rape.
4. By all means, one shall not steal, sell & take drugs.
5. By all means, one shall not take advantage of others and be deceitful.
6. By all means, one shall not excessively believe in evil cults.

One should always keep at heart to always lend a helping hand to the less fortunate and follow the main purpose of Mao Shan Lotus Sect.

These words give people a feeling of mystery and evil sorcery plus the name is rumored a spiritual possession. You may ask deities such as Monkey King, Lord Guan, or Nezha to take possession of your body to perform superhuman actions. But nowadays, the understanding of the SMA is relatively shallow. Especially the younger generation who easily misinterprets it. The SMA can be considered as Kung Fu or a self protect skill. When speaking of SMA, we are not teaching one to be superstitious. But we hope that readers can see the truth and righteousness of things from various angles. Only those who are ignorant are confused while those who are eager to learn will gain knowledge. Learning and having an understanding prior to judgment is always better than randomly calling people sorcerers without knowing the full details.

SMA is perceived as superstitious and considered deceptive by the world. Every religion has scum. You cannot take one person’s actions and hold the entire religion accountable. To clarify the authenticity of the sect, it must be studied in depth; otherwise, the truth will be lost.
